Branding a lab that researches how marine sediments reveal the story of Earth’s climate.
THE STORY
What drives the long-term trajectory of Earth’s climate and ocean chemistry? How do marine sediments shape and record these changes over time? These are the central questions guiding the research of MUDPIT Laboratory (Multi-elemental Understandings of Deepsea Paleoceanography and Isotope Tracers). MUDPIT needed a logo that embodied its commitment to cutting-edge science, precision, and discovery.
MY ROLE
The core research of MUDPIT— the analysis of seafloor samples—was integral to crafting the logo. I created three distinct layers to symbolize the ocean, the seafloor, and the layers beneath it. To represent the months-long expeditions required to collect sediment cores, I incorporated an ocean drilling ship into the logo—symbolizing the sophisticated techniques behind MUDPIT’s research.
