From backyard birdwatching to a 50+ bird collection and Etsy business
THE STORY
Several summers ago, a pair of Carolina Wrens nested on my porch and raised two fledglings. Inspired by their song, I picked up my binoculars, bird guide, and folding chair to seek out my other winged neighbors. As I embarked on my journey as a birder, I started illustrating the birds around me and I haven't stopped since. The Bird Series features over 50 birds from North America and beyond.
PROCESS
I created a versatile visual system that allows each bird to be displayed both individually and as part of a larger set. This approach makes it easy for customers to add new birds to their collection as they see “lifers”. With over 1,200 prints sold, many customers have shared how they’ve curated their own personalized bird gallery walls, returning to purchase additional prints to expand their collections.
